A famous zen story says that before one is awakened / enlightened, they chop wood and carry water. And after, they chop wood and carry water.

Wood will be needed to make fire, to keep warm in the winter and to cook, regardless if one is enlightened… and water is essential for drinking as well as washing and cooking purposes, no matter if someone has experienced an awakening or not…

Maybe in today’s morern society we don’t need to chop wood, or carry water, as we have appliances and plumbing… but the meaning remains… life remains, after one enters a higher level of awareness… My own personal saying is that “Hunger shall come again”… you can eat the most delicious meal, your favorite foods, made by an award winning chef.,.. and yet within a number of hours, you will again be hungry.

By keeping this talisman near or under your bed, or anywhere else that you spend time often, it’s anointing will help you achieve and maintain the delicate balance of Zen… Refocusing your mind so that you can work without worry… to be attentive to each task in your life, actively, consciously.

To achieve the balance with your presence… here and now… and your purpose.
